Maketoys Quantron: Metal Storm ( Not Scattershot )

Good day folks! Next on my Quantron review will be non other than their leader - Metal Storm (Not Scattershot) He is the leader for the Technobots and forms the torso for Computron, or in this case, Quantron. He has 2 other alternate mode namely a spaceship and a base mode. Scattershot is one of the most powerful Autobot there is and he knows that well, for he is rude and brags about his abilities all the time. He is ever ready to join in the battle with the Decepticons and the bigger the battle, the happier he is.

Here are some pictures I've taken from the internet and snapshots from my laptop.

This I guess is one of the best drawings of Scattershot available. It features his stats and bios as well as his 2 alternate modes.

Here we have Scattershot with Strafe in the G1 series.

His alternate spaceship mode in the episode " Grimlock's new brain"

His base mode.

Here we have the robot himself, Metal Storm aka Scattershot. He has a very G1-like design by Maketoys and by far most G1 looking of the 5 Technobots by Maketoys. He has the red U-shape chest piece, dark red color arm, bright red color forearm, red crotch piece, white thighs and the best part is his head sculpt which is totally spot on. Plastic quality and paint job is excellent. Body to head and limbs ratio is quite OK but was hopping that his lower limbs would be a little longer, looks a bit shorter than it should be, well, its just my honest opinion, a little nit-pick, because I can't really find anything wrong with this figure! He is awesome! Oozing with G1 goodness!

For his side view we can see his Computron head over-hanging at the back and the L-shaped tail-like thing is to hold the head for his spaceship or Quantron's bow.

Back view is not too bad, just a little odd over his wrist region.

Here we have a look once he has his bow/head of spaceship on his back. A little oversize for him to carry around. I think it looks better on Quantron/Computron.

Side view is better as it covers up the L-shaped "tail" and Computron/Quantron's head.

Back view

He does come with a lot of accessories. Rather saying they are for Scattershot, I think its fitting to say that these are for Computron.

Here we have a look at that perfect G1 head sculpt. Very very nice! Love the blue visor and white head sculpt. Very G1 accurate.

Side view of his head looks marvelous

His head does not tilt up, only can look up minimally

He does have some range of movement looking down.

His head can turn 180 degrees side to side. Unable to turn a full 360 degrees due to Computron's head hanging on his back.

Shoulders are pretty standard. rotates a full 360 degrees.

Shoulder's double hinge allows him to do a 90 degree abduction.

He has biceps swivel, a full 360 degrees.

Elbow flexion till about 110 degrees.

He can rotate his hips to a full 360 degrees. They are on a nice ratchet joint.

His wrist does rotates around.

No individual articulations over the fingers. Hand is in a fixed position.

His wrist does tilt up as part of his transformation if you want to count that as an articulation.

Here we can see his hips flex to 90 degrees. They can go up till about 110 degrees. They are on a ratchet joint. Basically his hips and his lower limbs are on nice ratchet joints as this is important for maintaining stability in combiner mode.

Hip extension is about 90 degrees.

He has a hip swivel which turns a full 360 degrees, also on a ratchet joint.

Knees flex to about 90 degrees.

He is unable to do a perfect split, hip abduction is about 60 degrees.

Foot tilting movements downwards.

Upward tilting is much better.

Here we have a look at his alternate mode. I think its a very nicely designed spaceship. Its quite bulky and I like the idea of  using the front part of the spaceship to turn into Computron's weapon.

The back part of the spaceship looks mainly like Quantron's chest, and the blasters can be tilt to the other direction and now functions as a weapon for the spaceship.

Close up

Well if you want to you can open up his bow and transform his spaceship mode to an entirely different looking spaceship.

The feet for combiner mode is not left out, and can be attach to his alternate mode.

Open up the part for the heels.

Here we can have a look for his full burst mode. His guns located on either side of the spaceship's wings and the feet for combiner mode firmly attached also on either side of the wings.

From the back we can see the feet works like some sort of boosters for the spaceship.

Personally I don't really like the feet as boosters on either side as it make the alternate mode too complicated. Prefer to loose the feet and just attach the blasters beneath the wings.

Here we have a look at some size comparison between Scattershot and Strafe. Man, he is huge!

Standing by at the side of their leader.

Well, with a little imagination you can create your own Scattershot's base mode.

" Protect the base at all cost!"

You can attach the white extra bit in front of Scattershot's blaster to add on a ?grenade launcher

Here we have a look at Scattershot with his full armament. A litle too much if you ask me LOL

Photo-shoot time!

Though sometimes he tends to fell backwards, but with a little manipulations, you can make him do some difficult poses.

"Prepare for battle Technobots!"

Next we will have a look at some size comparisons. Between the other 4 Technobots, Sonic Drill looks to be the tallest and Celeritas seems the smallest, though as a glance, they are pretty much the same size.

Metal Storm is much much bigger in size than the rest of them. Well, he does forms the torso.

Here we have a size comparison with Revolver core.

With DX9 Invisible.

With Function X2 and X3

With MP-17 Prowl

With Toyworld BII

With MP-11 Starscream

Last group photo before we end Metal Storm's review.      :)

Here is aG1 Scattershot toy's picture that I took from the internet. I think he is not too bad looking for an 80's toys. One of the best looking group of combiners then.

Summary: Most G1 accurate among the 5 members of Quantron. Initially I thought Blindfire was the closest to G1 cartoon, but it turns out Metal Storm won in terms of G1 accuracy. Very sturdy and stable joints especially at the waist, hips, knees. Excellent paint job and above average plastic quality. Good replay value and lots of accessories to fiddle around. Transformation from robot to alternate mode is not difficult.  His ankle joints are not very sturdy and he tends to fall backwards, especially with his bow on his back. Other than that, not much issue.

Thanks again for reading!
