Maketoys Quantron

Hello boys and girls, now finally for the final review for Quantron ( Not Computron ) in combiner mode. Computron is the most technologically advance robot in the Autobot army, but his need to analyze everything in battle makes him slow to react, even though he makes the best decision. Similar to all Technobots,, Computron too is a creation of Grimlock. For me, he is the best looking combiner for the Autobots in G1.

Here are some pictures I've taken from the internet.
These are some awesome drawings of Computron.

We will first have a look at Quantron's weapon. The front part of  Metal Storm's spaceship will be his weapon.

You can extend the whole thing to form a bow-like weapon for Quantron. Though Computron does not really have a bow as a weapon in G1, but it is still a very creative idea. The bow can be extended or shortened according to your liking. Love the chrome finishing for the middle part of the bow. Looks very cool.

Next we have both of Quantron's feet. While G1 Computron's feet is all red in color, Maketoys adds on some extra touches to have it look more lively with some white at the heel and translucent orange feet. As we have seen earlier, Quantron's feet can be attached to Metal Storm as part of his arsenal in both robot and alternate mode, instead of lying around at the side until combine mode.

Interesting part is that the hands for Quantron is located inside his feet. Fits in nicely.

The hands are quite detail and are mainly red in color.

He has individual articulation in all of his fingers which is a very important feature for collectors nowadays as this greatly increases the figure's ability to pose.

Metal Storm's dual blasters can also combine with 2 other pieces to form a huge blaster for Quantron.

Final combination will look like this, the gun does have double barrel and a rocket launcher-like ability in the middle. There are very fine detailing along the weapon and there are no paint blemishes on mine.

We now have a look at each of Quantron's limb. Here is Blindfire in his limb mode. Nothing too fancy, looks like he is in mid transformation and holding his dual weapons.

At the back we can see the combiner port.

Closer look at the port.

There are some interesting features for Maketoys' Quantron and that is the pistons which are available in both Quantron's elbow joint. Not sure if it helps in the range of motion at all, (I'm not entirely sure whether it is to make the joints more stable, or just to make the elbow joints look more awesome)  but it does cover up the gap between the thighs for Blindfire. The pistons also made his elbow look more robotic and cool.

Next we have a look at Overheat in his limb mode. As you can see his troncycle wheels have been seperated to give it a double wheel look. It does make his hands look more bulky. His double boosters and blaster is also incorporated into his limb mode.

Back view. WE can see he too has the combiner port and piston features like Blindfire.

Closer look at the cool piston feature.

Next we move on to Celeritas. Among the 4 limbs, he looks the most different from his alternate mode, and the most difficult to transform and stabilize in limb mode. Maketoys could have made it easy by making him a combine mode like Fansproject Not Menasor series, just pop up the hood and stick it in, but they did some innovation and come up with this instead. The side of his alternate mode is flex inwards about 90 degrees, part of the front wheels can be detach and stick to his blasters. His blasters ultimately are at either side of his limb mode.

Back view.

Here we have a look at Sonic Drill in combiner mode. He looks pretty much the same as his alternate mode, just that his drill is in the opposite direction.

Back view.

Next, on to the big daddy himself. Metal Storm's combiner mode looks very familiar and there is actually not much different from his alternate mode transformation. If you flip his hips back and spread out the wings, you will have him in his alternate mode.

Quantron's head sculpt is as G1 as you can get and I'm really digging it. Really pays homage to the Computron we love. Excellent detailing and paint job. Very nicely done. Chest piece looks awesome as well.

Have a closer look at the combiner ports. Basically you just push and slot the hands in. There are some spring mechanism on either side of the port for extra stability once you slot the hands in.

The port for the lower limbs slides into place rather then pegs in. Some manipulation is require to make some clearings when you want to slide in Celeritas / Sonic Drill.

Back view for Quantron's torso. Not much issue or complains there. Just that we can detect the "double head" phenomena from Metal Storm's and Quantron's head.

Here is Sonic Drill with Quantron's foot attached. There is a nice tight ball joint for his ankle joint, allowing god range of movements.

Front view.

Back view. Officially, you will need to lift up his heels, but if you need some extra stability, you can just let it down.

Here we have a look at his other foot. Celeritas as mentioned earlier does need more fiddling around to get it into place. You just need a little more patience.

Back view.

An interesting thing that I would like to point out is that there are some part of Quantron's foot that have rubber parts to provide extra grip for the figure. Good attention to details and very thoughtful indeed.

Now we have Quantron's hand on Blindfire.

Do the same with Overheat.

Well, here we have Quantron in his combiner mode.
Front the front he does look a bit hunch as his head is at a lower position than both his shoulders and the weapon on his back is not helping either. As for his sholder range of movements, he has a swivel and double ratchet joint which allows a wide range of upper limbs movements.

He looks much better in this view after adjusting the angle.

" Cycbertron needs YOU! Sign up now and join the Autobot Fraction! Fight for your freedom!"

Taking a glance at the whole robot, he does have good head to body and limbs ratio, looks pretty solid. Other than the little hunch look, I think he does look good for a  not Computron, though not very G1 looking. Take him as a futuristic Computron, an upgrade.

Looks better from this angle.

Range of movements for his lower limbs are pretty similar to Metal Storm, utilizing the ratchet joints for his hip and knee movements.

The side view looks quite OK with his bow stored at his back, but without it, he looks very flat from the side.

Back view too looks fairly good.

Now for the killer pose. The ability to hold and pose with his massive bow really impress me. You have a grey colored handle on either side of his bow for one hand to hold on, and for the back of the bow, you don't really hold on to anything, there are pegs to peg into slots in his fist.

You can also flip Overheat's weapon to make it point forward and use it as a weapon.

You can try to make it more G1 by attaching Blindfire's blasters directly on his shoulders.
But this also makes his right arm looks a little less bulky.

Here he is side by side with TFC's Uranos. Well TFC is a much bigger combiner.
Other than his size, he is better than Uranos in all other fields such as stability, posability, range of movements and even plastic quality.

Well we can't have a Computron review without Grimlock
Grimlock:" Kneel Computron, you will now receive my intelligence."

A little size comparison with MP-22.

Pros: As a whole, a decent looking combiner, futuristic looking Computron, very G1 looking head sculpt for Quantron, good range of motions for his upper limbs. awesome bow as weapon to pose with. Individual articulating fingers, good plastic quality, excellent paint job, rubber pads on his foot for extra grip, great replay value, no signs of stress marks aster playing with it,  individual robots nicely done, each with nice range of movements. Good effort as a whole. I do enjoy my figure.

Cons: A little small for a combiner size ( for me ). Of course its not MP scale. Hunch looking combiner mode, lower limbs sometimes slides out when manipulating the figure. Flat looking figure from the side/not bulky enough. No die-cast. Not really G1 accurate. There are some issues in the first release (which they provide some spare parts) but they have rectify it in the subsequent release such as mine.
Well, no figure is perfect, everybody has his/her own standards. Some like G1, some like a little innovation, some like bigger figures, some like smaller figures etc. In the end, It all depends on you and if you really like the figure, go get it!

Here are some pictures taken from the internet regarding G1 computron
Maketoys has made a good effort in providing us with a decent looking not-computron, hopefully there will be some other company to bring us an even better one.

Worbotron seems to be starting well with their 1st release not-afterburner.
Wish 3rd parties can scale their combiners so it would be easy for collectors to choose the best combiners from each company instead of burning bigger and bigger holes in their pockets LOL

Fingers crossed   :)

Thank you for reading folks!
