Fansproject Function X4 Sigma L

Hello and good day Transformers fans, today I will be doing a review on another Fansproject Function X series - Function X-4 Sigma L ( not mindwipe ) Fansproject have impress me with their quality product and fun transformation, Midewipe is no different. Mindwipe 1st appear in the G1 series after the resurrection of Optimus Prime. During that time, he is not a headmaster yet, but when the Autobots and Decepticons crash landed in Nebulos. He join forces with the Hive's scientist Vorath.

Here are some pictures I've taken from the net.

Eat this Autobrats1

One of his special skill is Hypnosis as his name suggest, Mindwipe.

He comes in the same design box similar to other function X series. His box is mainly purple in color.

He comes in his robot form out of the box.

Besides his instruction manuals, he also comes with 2 shotguns, don't think it is his primary weapon in G1 but I think his weapons look bad-ass. Mainly in black and grey in color, with nice details. Some degree of tilting is possible at the handle.

Here he is out of the box. My first thought is that he looks a little skinny, because in the G1 cartoon he looks more bulky, but its not a big issue. But what surprises me that his wings looks very very awesome! Very posable and adjustable at a lot of angles. His wings is mainly made up of 3 parts and can be folded, or fully expend for maximum effect. Looking at his enormous wings, I'm surprise he is not very back heavy and can stand up straight even if his wings are folded all the way back. As a whole, he does not have any paint blemishes, joint are mainly tight, but 1 noticeable flaw in all function X series is that I found that their waist is a little loose compared to other joints, its a little nit pick as I can't really find any flaws in their QC. His colours are mainly purple and black similiar to Mindwipe, but I do like the neon green added to make him more eye catching.

Here he is with his wings fully expended. For me, any figure designed with wings will make them look absolutely awesome!

Here he is with his wings semi-fold up. The part where the wings attached to the arms are on a double hinge joint.

Another thing that I don't really like is that there is a hollow part at his back. This part will eventually be the headmaster's seat when he transforms into his alternate mode, and also the fact that he will be slightly back heavy with his wings, and maybe with this design, they can make him more stable when the wings fold back.

A close up. Here we can see the hollow part more clearer.

For his face sculpt, I think it looks kinda cool with his visor on, a little bat ear and they also include a dracula like looks around his collar.

With his collar design, his head has limited rotations 0-45 degrees.
There really isn't much head tilting available, if you really want him to look up, you have to tilt up his chest piece a little.

His hand abduction is about 0-60 degrees, pretty much similar to other function X series.

His biceps swivel can rotate a full 360 degrees allowing maximum internal rotation. Love the small details they put on his forearms with a gauntlet thingy and an elbow spike.

His shoulder joint is on a ball joint allowing a full 360 degrees rotation.

His elbow flexion can go all the way on a double hinge as it is a part of his transformation.

His fists or claws for that matter is on a ball joint which can rotate a full 360 degrees. His fingers has no individual articulation.

His waist swivel can turn a full 360 degrees, but as I said earlier, it is a little loose.

He can't do a perfect split :)
( Also similar to other function X series )

Hip flexion .........

Hip extension.....

Knee flexion....

Some tilting is possible on his foot.

Goes all the way down till this position.

Come on Autobots! I can take you all on because I have these awesome wings!!!

Lets not forget about his weapons.... he comes with 2 single barrel shot guns, which I think makes him look a bit old school, because I thought Cycbertronians should have a futuristic blaster, lol. But I guess they want to match his Count Dracula like personality. Not saying it is a bad choice of weapon, but I was thinking he will look cooler with melee weapons, like a double scimitar to go along with his spiky elbow armor, but that's just me.....

A closer look at his weapons, very nice detailing and color.

Some poses.....

He is quite stable and is able to pose in a variety of ways, and he is not really back heavy, I think Fansproject have done a good job in this.

Here he is in his alternate mode. Transformation wise I still think that Fansproject's funtion X series rocks! Again fun transformation and they fully utilize the legs this time for his awesome transformation.

The hands of his robot mode lying on either side of his alternate mode to me looks a little weird, but not that it makes him ugly, just a little weird. Initially when I saw his tiny bat feet, i was thinking it would not be able to support his alternate mode and tend to fall forward or backwards, but it seems like I was wrong. His bat feet are surprisingly stable and tight to hold his alternate mode upright, or slight tilting foward.

His bat head is mainly reddish in color, with mean green eyes, looks ok, but probably will look a little better if they took the red color similar to his wings?

Here we have a close up with his alternate mode's head scalp. You can see some nice detailing there.

You can open his bat jaws to a maximum at this angle.

Top view on his alternate mode. Another thing that I don't really like about his alternate mode is that his robot feet is left overhanging or did I mess up the transformation?

A closer look at his back and you'll notice a coffin like shape with a cross on top to again give it a Dracula-like effect. I think it is a very cool feature for this figure.

Here is his partner not Vorath. I think he is the coolest of all the headmasters as he has a bat symbol on his chest lol. Looks very cool.

Articulation wise it is also similar to other headmasters in the function X series.

At the back we can see the ingenious design which hides his robot face when he stands up leaving behind a T-shape neon green design on his back.

As with all function X series, the headmaster can fit inside the alternate mode nicely, and here Vorath basically sits in a coffin.  o.O

And here we have Function X-4 with other Function X series and as you can see, he is the tallest of the 4, not sure whether the future Function X series figures will follow Sigma-L's size, or they will make them smaller again. Probably he looks a bit taller as his legs play a major role in his transformation, and they need his legs to be longer? I'm not sure. Probably Fansproject read the fans suggestions to make their Function X series to be slightly taller, to at least scale better with masterpiece Autobot cars?

Height and scale aside, they do look awesome together.   :)    Love them!

You can compare the head-scalp of the function X series here, Personally, I like Chromedome's design, I'm not sure why. Probably I'm an Autobot fan ;p

Line up boys....

Since Hardhead and Highbrow is not here yet, we can add in the Decepticons to form the circle of friendship, or something like that in the Japanese Headmasters cartoon. Can't believe they destroy Galvatron with this.... sheesh.....

Head off!!!!

Was fooling around with my figure then I notice he has a 3rd mode lol. Monster mode  :)

Well he does resemble the headmaster junior Wilder a bit.... What do you think?

Here we have a look from a pic from the net of his G1 toy. I think he looks not too bad even for his G1 toy.
