Maketoys Quantron: Overheat ( Not Afterburner )

Hello again guys, I will continue with my Maketoys Quantron review with Overheat ( Not Afterburner ). Afterburner too was created by Grimlock in the G1 cartoon along with the other Technobots. He is one of those short tempered Autobots and will go on a rampage from time to time when he feels like it. He has no patience and dislikes authorities. He transforms into a Cycbertronian bike and form the other arm of Computron.

Here are some pictures from the internet and my computer.

Overheat's design is the exact opposite of  Blindfire where the design in both robot mode and motorcycle mode is not G1-like. They've retool it to be a totally new/futuristic looking Afterburner.
To be honest I am a little disapointed with them moving away from G1 design but if you look at the figure as a totally new Autobot, he is quite well designed.

Here we have Overheat in robot mode. The design as a whole to me is quite OK but I think they have done a better job with Blindfire. His body, head and limbs ratio is quite nice and he does have his wheels hanging on either shoulders. The color is there, with Afterburner's orange color. Plastic quality is excellent similar to Blindfire and paint job is again spotless.
I don't really like the way his shin looks from the front because to be it is not fully secured. You just fold part of the front of the alternate mode to his legs, does not really peg in there. But its just a little nit-pick.

His side view. We can clearly see his wheel's inner design and his piston nicely tuck onto his back. Not much over-hanging parts. His legs do look better from the sides.

Here we have a look at his back. not too bad, legs also looks better from the back. The inner red plastic from his wheels does make him look badass from the back. Very cool.

His head scalp is totally not G1, a totally new look. Very unique design, unlike the boxy squarish design most transformers have. He too comes with visors, and nice detailing all around for the head scalp.

His head can turn a full 360 degrees. How shall I put the head design? Like a lion's head design? LOL. I just can't find a work to describe it.

Head tilting is fairly limited, up or down.

Shoulder rotates a full 360 degrees on a ball-joint.

The ball and hinge joint design is the same as Blindfire, allowing him to fully abduct his shoulders.

Elbow flexion to 90 degrees.

Elbow swivel does allows him to rotate a full 360 degrees.

His hand design is one of the disapointing part for this figure. Not the fact that he does not have any individual articulation, but the fact that the hands looks like they are wearing mittens LOL. The hand is in a fixed position and they do rotate a full 360 degrees.

Waist is on a ratchet joint and too rotates a full 360 degrees.

He can perform an anterior split.

But unable to do a perfect side split. Only to about 80 degrees.

Knee flexion is also fairly limited to about 40-50 degrees.

Thigh swivel can rotate a full 360

Unlike Blindfire, he does have some ankle side tilt.

Foot can tilt downwards about 30 degrees.

Upward tilt is much better to about 60 degrees.

He does comes with a blaster and 2 rocket launchers/boosters

By combining those together, you get a hammer like weapon for Overheat. I think its a cool looking weapon.

Well, as I've said before, his alternate mode too is not anything like the G1 design. I think he looks more like a Tron Cycle.

I think they got the idea from this white Tron Cycle, haha.

Top view for his alternate mode. Nothing much to see here.

Now side view is very interesting. His design can fully being appreciated from the side view. Love the top orange design with exposed grey parts at the lower half with fine detailing much like a super bike.

They didn't leave any details out either at the back of the Tron cycle. Very nice details.

Close up front view. Don't be fooled by this design, he does roll around ( Although not super smooth, but he does roll )

The only downside to this Tron cycle design is that the robot head is exposed.

Problem fixed with his blaster attach to his alternate mode.

Looks better with his Blaster attached.

You can also equip his rocket launchers/boosters on either side of his alternate mode to make him look bulkier. I prefer to imagine the red plastics as warheads than boosters, haha. gives him more firepower.

" They see me rolling, they hating...."

Just to show the view from the bottom.

Here is Overheat with his Hammer.
I think the idea is very cool and refreshing. Who would have thought that Afterburner would have a Big @$$ hammer at his disposal.

The handle can actually fit through both his fists for him to do some interesting poses. But again, double mittens LOL.

He is strong enough to hold it with one hand.

The last image his Decepticon prey will ever see.

You can separate his hammer and attach the rocket launchers/boosters on his shoulders.

Two down, three more to go.......

Here is Afterburner's G1 toy. Well, we can't really compare both of them as they are completely 2 different designs.

As a summary, I am a little disapointed that Maketoys did not decide to do a G1 upgrade version of afterburner like Blindfire, but G1 aside, I think he is a cool looking figure, futuristic design with multiple posing choices, stable, but with some scary transformation steps. A good effort I think.
