Maketoys Quantron : Blindfire ( Not Strafe )

Hello and good day Transformers fans, today I will be doing a review on yet another 3rd party Transformers release, and this time by Maketoys, 1/5 of Quantron - Blindfire ( Not Strafe ) This will be Maketoys' version of G1 Computron. I was on the fence for this one initially, because it is a more futuristic looking Computron and not very G1, but I've decided to pull the trigger because I really love the design for most of their robot mode individually, and the killer pose in their combined mode.

Strafe is from the Autobot subgroup the Technobots, basically built from scratch by Grimlock in the G1 episode "Grimlock's New Brain" He transforms into a futuristic Cycbertronian jet and forms the arm of Computron. He is a trigger happy Autobot and usually will shoot first and ask questions later. Strafe loves action and will jump into a fight with the Decepticons without much consideration.

Here are some pictures of Strafe I got from the internet and print screen from my laptop.

Strafe's alternate mode is one of my favourite among all aircraft/jets in the G1 continuity. Very cool looking cycbertronian jet.

Strafe in his alternate mode. Robot mode is rather simple with his wings folded around his back and feet. He also has one of the better head scalps in G1 cartoon.

Here is Maketoy's Quantron. They all come in 1 big box. Nice box design overall, much like Maketoy's green giant. You can see them in individual robot mode and combiner form. Good news is that you get to save storage space. Bad news is that you have to buy them in a whole set LOL.

Back of the box is nicely designed as well and no space is wasted. We can see again the Technobots in Not Computron form. Also shows the individual robots as well as their alternate mode. Here we can also have a look at Quantron's weapons.

For now, our review will be on this guy here.

Here is Blindfire / Strafe himself. He is my favorite among the Quantron members mainly because he looks very G1, an upgraded version of Strafe but did not stray too far from the original G1 design. He looks very good as a whole with excellent head to body and limbs ratio. Good plastic quality and  very quality paint job.

Here we can see his side view. The way the wings are folded at his feet are very G1-like.

Back view look fairly OK with some overhanging parts ( Pistons and tip of the alternate mode )

Here we have a close up look at his face scalp. Not very G1 looking, but still looks cool. His face is reddish in color and he has a orange-like visor. Its a little hard to see them in my photo, but you will notice it if you look closely. He however does not have any light-pipping. His chest piece also looks cool to me

His head is on a ball joint which allows him to rotate a full 360 degrees.

 Head tilting

Shouders are on a ball joint which rotates 360 degrees.

they've applied a clever mechanism for his shoulder abduction. Mainly a ball and hinge joint to greatly improve his posability.

He has biceps swivel which can rotate a full 360 degrees.

Elbow flexion to 90 degrees.

No individual articulating fingers. His whole hand is in a fix position, however, he has a wrist swivel which also rotates a full 360 degrees.

Waist is on a ratchet joint, enabling him to rotate full 360 degrees. ( position of piston needs to be adjusted for a clear path)

Can perform an almost perfect split

360 degrees thigh rotation on a swivel joint.

Hip flexion to about 80 degrees.

Hip extension is much better till about 120 degrees.

His foot can be tilt up to some extend.

His foot has no issues tilting all the way down as it is part of his transformation.

Blindfire/Strafe comes with 2 blasters and 2 swords ( alternate mode's front wing tips )

Here comes the fun part. with these 2 sets of  items you can have multiple looks and you can mix and match and pose him whichever way you like. Here we attach his swords at the back, making him look like wings in neutral position.

Or you can pose his wings by the sides....

Or you can pose him in flight mode.......

Its fun posing him around

If you want, you can detach his wings and fit them onto his hands to form double wielding swords.

Well, fitting his blasters on his shoulder is more G1, but they are too long and makes him look silly.

" Eat this Decepticons!"

" Who's next?!"

Here we have Blindfire in his alternate mode.
His transformation is very much like the G1 toy and is very simple. But the end result simply looks spectacular. Really love this upgrades look for Strafe. You can choose to remove his weapons in his alternate mode, its entirely up to you. I'm really happy for the multiple choice to play and pose with this figure.

Top view. He does have some light pipping

Back view.

Close up

Some modifications for his alternate mode if you wish. A much simpler jet mode.

Does not look too bad either.

With some adjustment, you can give it a more G1 look.

I think I prefer him in this alternate mode. Looks more G1 don't you think?

Bottom view for his alternate mode.

Just to show some light-pipping for his modified alternate mode.

Full Burst mode!

 A more Gundam-like look :)

 Mexican Stand-off

Thanks for reading guys and gals!

Here is Strafe in his G1 toy. You can see that they have almost identical transformation. Retract the feet, hide the head, weapons on shoulder and flip the wings.

As a whole, I really love this Maketoys version of Strafe with his replay value, his G1 feel, his posability even though he is a small figure. Will follow up with his other comrades soon in my blog. Stay tuned......
